The inaugural post

Hi everyone, if you are reading this, you’ve found (or have been invited to) my academic blog. I have decided to launch my own blog for the purposes of making explicit my thoughts and ideas as I prepare for my prelims and beyond that, my dissertation. My aims and goals for the launch of this blog, as its title suggests, is to reflect on what I am reading and thinking about and making those thoughts explicit. In a way this blog is a form of commitment to the thinking and writing that I have to do.

More importantly, I am also hopeful that this blog may spur feedback and conversation as well. I am explicitly making this blog open and would welcome comments and feedback from both colleagues and the public alike. Let’s see if this little experiment works out for me. Wish me luck :)

Nice ponderings, Jude. You know for me it’s all about, “can conversations taking place in the blogosphere add up to something that’s greater than the sum of its parts, and to feed that back to the participants so that everyone gets back more than they’re putting in?” As someone who’s long been interested in collaboration, I am interested in studying tools that can support this kind of activity. What’s more, can these tools even extend/enhance it? Perhaps f2f is not the gold standard for collaboration but Web 2.0 might be (achieving the promise of “Beyond being there”)? It’s an empirical question…
